With the increasing demand for green energy in industrial and commercial buildings, TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) roofs that combine lightweight and weather resistance have become an ideal carrier for installing flexible solar panels. Pure Solar launches customized solutions that achieve efficient power generation while ensuring roof waterproofing through perforation free technology and flexible adaptive design.
Pre evaluation: Dual dimensional calculation of load and sunshine
The load capacity of TPO roof is a prerequisite for installation. Flexible solar panels have a light weight (about 3.5kg/?), but the roof bearing capacity still needs to be evaluated based on the total weight of the support system (recommended ? 15kg/?). It is necessary to use a laser rangefinder to confirm the roof slope (recommended 5 ° -30 °), and analyze the optimal installation area through solar irradiation software to avoid obstacles such as pipelines and skylights. It is recommended to choose flexible boards with a light transmittance of 5% -15% to reduce the impact of light on the space below the roof.
Non perforated installation: adhesive and compression composite solution
Pure Solar adopts two core processes to address the puncture sensitivity of TPO roofs:
1. Special adhesive fixation: Use TPO compatible double-sided tape or polyurethane adhesive to directly attach the flexible board to the roof, and reinforce the edges with wind resistant fasteners;
2. Gravity ballast system: Install low center of gravity ballast blocks (such as heavy-duty sand bags or customized concrete bases) at the four corners of the plate to avoid local stress concentration through distributed load-bearing. Clean the TPO surface during installation and use isopropanol to remove the oxide layer to enhance adhesion.
Surface Adaptation and Splicing Technology
Flexible solar panels can be attached to TPO roofs with slight curvature (curvature radius ? 1.5m), but if encountering complex curved surfaces, block splicing method should be used: cut standard size panels into 0.8m × 1.5m units, arrange them in a staggered wave shape, overlap the joints by 2cm, and seal them with conductive silver adhesive. Note that the edge of the board should be at least 10cm away from the TPO weld seam to prevent delamination caused by thermal expansion.
Waterproof wiring and heat dissipation optimization
Electrical circuits need to be laid along the direction of TPO prefabricated trenches or brackets, wrapped with UV resistant sleeves, and fixed with nylon ties every 50cm. The junction box should be installed on the side of the raised structure on the roof (such as the ventilation base), and EPDM waterproof gasket should be installed at the bottom. Due to the weak thermal insulation of TPO, it is recommended to install a 3mm honeycomb aluminum plate on the back of the board to reduce the working temperature through air convection and avoid efficiency degradation.
Full cycle maintenance and risk prevention and control
Check the adhesive for aging and cracking every quarter, and test the stability of the ballast block before the typhoon season. Use a soft scraper and deionized water for cleaning, and do not use strong acid or alkali cleaning agents. Real time tracking of the output voltage of each board through an intelligent monitoring system. If the power of a single board drops by more than 15%, it may indicate local delamination or cable leakage. In winter, it is necessary to remove snow in a timely manner to prevent colloid brittleness caused by low temperatures.
The Pure Solar project manager pointed out that “the compatibility between flexible boards and TPO roofs can increase installation efficiency by 40%, and the roof waterproofing is zero damage throughout the entire lifecycle.” Currently, this solution has been successfully applied in cold chain logistics warehouses, retail stores, and other scenarios, with an average annual power generation of 250000 kWh per project, saving more than 30% of electricity costs for enterprises. Through technological innovation, the integration of green energy and building functionality is moving towards higher dimensions.
