Pure Solar—How to install flexible solar panels on a glass roof?

With the integration of architectural aesthetics and green energy demand, glass roofs are highly favored for their transparency and modernity. However, how to safely and efficiently install flexible solar panels on glass surfaces has become a challenge for many homeowners. Pure Solar launches innovative solutions that combine seamless installation technology with transparent power generation design, transforming glass roofs into “invisible power stations”.

Evaluate the load-bearing capacity and transparency of the glass roof

Before installing a glass roof, it is necessary to confirm the type of glass (tempered, laminated or hollow) and its load-bearing capacity. Although flexible solar panels are lightweight (about 3-5 kg/?), it is necessary to ensure that the total load of the support system does not exceed the glass design load. At the same time, flexible semi transparent panels with light transmittance (10% -30%) should be selected according to lighting requirements to avoid completely blocking indoor light. It is recommended that a professional team use an infrared thermal imaging device to detect the stress distribution of glass and plan the panel layout.

Non perforated installation technology: suction cup vs special adhesive

To protect the integrity of the glass, Pure Solar offers two traceless solutions:

1. Vacuum suction cup bracket: using high-strength silicone suction cups, attached to glass surfaces, with a single suction cup bearing capacity of up to 20 kg, suitable for reversible installation;

2. UV curable adhesive: a transparent colloid specially developed for glass, with strong UV resistance and weather resistance. After curing, the peel strength is greater than 2 M Pa, suitable for permanent fixation.

Clean the glass surface during installation, remove oil film and dust, and ensure that there are no bubbles on the bonding surface.

Surface fitting techniques for flexible panels

Glass roofs often have a curvature, and flexible solar panels can be installed smoothly. If the curvature exceeds 30 °, the splicing method of dividing into sections should be used: cut the large-sized panel into 30-50 cm wide strips, paste them in a staggered manner along the curved surface, overlap the joints by 1-2 cm, and seal them with conductive adhesive. Be careful to avoid glass joints or support frames to prevent stress concentration from causing cracking.

Concealed electrical wiring and heat dissipation design

Cables can be concealed through glass curtain wall keels or customized aluminum alloy slots to avoid exposure and affect aesthetics. The junction box should be fixed on the edge of the roof or structural column, away from the area where personnel come into contact. Due to the poor thermal insulation of glass, it is necessary to reserve a 1-2 cm air layer on the back of the panel or install micro heat dissipation fins to prevent a decrease in power generation efficiency caused by high temperatures (>80 ?).

Daily maintenance and safety instructions

Wipe the panel quarterly with a soft cloth and neutral cleaner to avoid scratching the glass coating with hard objects. In winter, it is necessary to promptly remove snow to prevent suction cups or adhesives from failing at low temperatures. Regularly check the electrical insulation resistance (standard value>1 M ?) and track the power generation data in real time through the monitoring system. If air leakage or yellowing of the adhesive is found on the suction cup, it should be reinforced or replaced immediately.

The Pure Solar technology team stated that “glass roof photovoltaic systems need to balance power generation, transparency, and building safety. Flexible panels and seamless installation can improve space utilization by 20%.” Currently, this solution has been applied in art museums, greenhouses, and other scenarios, injecting sustainable energy into buildings while ensuring natural lighting.
